Ray Miller


Ray Miller is a native of Macon, Georgia, and has a long history of working in Georgia Republican Party politics, beginning as a volunteer for Congressman Charles Weltner’s campaign in the 1960s. Ray also has a long history of working in Georgia’s business community, beginning with hometown Delta Airlines and later founding several businesses.

After serving in the Marine Corps Reserves and the United States Army, Miller became involved in the Republican Party of Dekalb County and was elected as Chairman of the Dekalb County Republican Party (1990-1991) at a time when Democrats dominated local and state offices. Miller has helped shape the Georgia Republican Party from the days when Republicans met in phone booths until today when Republicans control the Governor’s office, the Lt. Governor’s office and the Georgia State House and Senate offices.

Miller raised thousands of dollars as the co-chair of the Georgia finance committee for Bob Dole’s Presidential campaign. He has also served on the board of directors for two non-partisan organizations; the Southeastern Legal Foundation and the Georgia Public Policy Foundation. At the Southeastern Legal Foundation, Miller helped lead the foundation through the takings issues that arose after Hurricane Hugo. At the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, Miller worked to improve education in Georgia.

Miller is perhaps best known for his longtime ownership of Armada Vans. Before starting Armada Vans, he was employed as city manager for the emerging rent-a-car giant, Enterprise Rent-a-Car. In 1982, Miller left Enterprise Rent-a-Car to start Armada Vans, which has become the largest specialty vehicle rental company in the southeast. For many years, Miller was the voice for Armada Vans on TV and radio, where he became know as the “Van Man.” H is slogan “Call Armada, we’ve got your van” is a well known slogan across the southeast.

Today, Miller is still active in the Georgia Republican Party and several charitable organizations. He has also served a three year stint as chairman of Hemophilia of Georgia. While Chairman, Miller helped Hemophilia of Georgia accomplish their fundraising goals.

Miller has been married to Gwinnett County attorney Mary A. Miller for 25 years. They have three grown children: Tom, who works in internet security for IBM and is presently posted to Brussels, Belgium; Alexandra, who is a law student at Mercer University; and Caitlin, who works for the Republican Governors Association in Washington, D.C. Miller’s son-in-law, Keith, is a law student at Georgia State University. When he can, Miller enjoys babysitting for his three year old grandson, William.
